There’s a reason why Luxor is known as the world’s largest open-air museum. It’s because a trip to Luxor is an opportunity for you to soak up the city's rich past. Geauxing Places Travel in Denham Springs, Louisiana, can organize your trip to Luxor. While there, these are 3 places that you should make an effort to see apart from the popular Luxor Museum which is a must: Karnak Temple Complex, the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Valley of the Kings.

  • Temple of Hatshepsut
  • The Temple of Hatshepsut stands out for its impressive architecture and amazing landscape. It was built to honor the female pharaoh Hatshepsut and ancient Egypt’s sun god Amon-Re. Hatshepsut is believed to have descended from Amon-Re. It is situated at the base of the limestone cliffs in Deir el-Bahri and you’ll find two chapels and two ramps that connect the upper and lower terrace. You’ll be doing a lot of walking, so remember to go along with water and wear comfortable clothes and shoes. The best time to visit is at the opening or just before it closes because of the high temperature that this region is known for.

  • Valley of The Kings
  • The valley of the kings is where lots of Egypt’s pharaohs were laid to rest and it’s where you’ll find the tombs of notable pharaohs like Tutankhamun and Ramses VI. They are spread across the East and West Valley but the bulk of the tombs lie in the East Valley. The West Valley has only 3 royal tombs. Avoid going in the summer as the heat can be unbearable but if you do decide to brave it, invest in lots of sunscreen and water. Photography and Videography are sadly not allowed on site.

  • Karnak Temple Complex
  • Karnak Temple Complex is located about 2 miles from the Temple of Luxor and is the most impressive collection of temple ruins. A visit to this complex is like traveling back in time and it offers a great insight into how life was in ancient Egypt. Note that no drinks are sold inside so make sure to stock up on water at one of the outdoor cafes before entering. You’ll find multiple temples, hieroglyphs, a sacred lake, and 2 obelisks. There is also a light show and other attractions that you can enjoy.
