The SeaLife Center is Alaska’s only marine mammal rehabilitation center and is located on the shore of Resurrection Bay. You can check out its educational exhibits and the various available sea animals. Don’t forget to investigate the touch tank too!
The story behind the Benny Benson Memorial is that in the late 1920s, about 30 years before Alaska achieved statehood, a contest was held for children to design ideas for Alaska’s flag. Benny Benson is the orphan boy who submitted the winning design. The design he submitted can be seen on the memorial to Benny at the corner of Seward Hwy and Dairy Hill Lane.
Exit Glacier is one of the most accessible glaciers in Alaska. You can drive right up to it in the summer months or trek there if you’re so inclined. It is part of the Kenai Fjords National Park and is one of the biggest attractions there. You will find that a network of trails that spider around and above the glacier, too.
Please note that the Seward Brewing Company is only open during the summer months. The whole building is a monument to Seward’s rich history. The company has a solid selection of beers and tasty brewpub fare.
The place originally opened as a bar in 1904, then it was turned into a theater during Prohibition, and then an Elks Club and a dinner club before it finally became Seward Brewing Company in 2012. Many of the relics within it showcase the history that we’ve just described, including the original Seward Theater seats and Alaska Steamship Logo.
This sweet little coffee shop is located in an old church and not only dishes out caffeinated beverages and sweet treats but also showcases the work from local artists. It’s a great place to pick up something that will remind you of your time spent in Seward, Alaska.
